Middling Farmers
Historic Farmer  By Parker,Teja,Renae,Pratik,and Hannah Farmers generally grew cash crops such as tobacco or wheat, and other food and fiber crops like corn, oats,cotten, flax, and hemp. Farmers also raised livestock such as boar and oxen, beef, dairy , oxen cattle , poultry , peas , beans, potatoes , turnips, pumpkins, cabbages , carrots , melons , and other fruits like apples and peaches.

The farmers planted crops and raised live stock.The whole family worked to plant crops.It took about 9 adults to keep the crops growing.Today Colonial Williamsburg Historic farmers do the work of middling farmers using 18 century method at Great Hopes Plantation in Williamsburg,Virginia.



My person is John Robinson and he went to William & Mary in Williamsburg ,he was a delegate of the House of Burgesses from 1736- 1738 , Speaker of Virginia House of Burgesses from 1738 -1766 Treasurer of Virginia colony from 1738 -1766 . His occupation was a planter . His wives were Marey Storey, Lucy Moore & Sussana Chiswell . He lived at Mount Pleasant Plantation , King and Queen County , Virginia . Also working on a Plantation is hard most slaves do the back breaking work like planting tobacco and taking the worms off of the tobacco plants.

They are also part of the rare breeds program. These are some of the names Leicester Longwool sheep, American Cream Draft Horses, Canadian Horses, American milking Red Devons, Durham and Dexon/ Lineback oxen, Dorking Chickens, Dominique Chickens, Hamburg chickens, and English Game Fowl.

Farming was a way to get money by selling crops and it can provide food for your family but it depends on what the farmer grows.
